Form: 209A - California Preliminary Notice (for Private Works) DOWNLOAD

Instant Download (PDF & RTF) | Builder's Book

This 20-Day Preliminary Notice must be sent by all contractors who have a direct contract with the property owner.

This notice must be served within 20 days of first providing labor, services, or materials to the project. It must be delivered to the Owner, General Contractor, and any Lender or Surety involved.

If more than 20 days have passed, you may still send the notice; however, it will only preserve lien rights for work performed or materials supplied after the notice is given, and for the 20 days prior to the date of service.

Filing this notice is necessary to protect your rights to a Mechanic’s Lien and Stop Payment Notice in case of nonpayment. While the form is primarily used by those without a direct contract with the owner—such as California subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and architects—it can also be relevant in other cases where lien rights need to be secured.

What You Get:

·         Immediate download of the form in two formats:

o    PDF (requires Adobe Reader)

o    RTF (requires Microsoft Word)

·         Formatted specifically for letter-size paper (8 1/2" x 11")

Important Details:

·         Download Delivery: Access your files via a secure link sent in your order confirmation email upon payment completion.

·         Final Sale: All downloadable forms are non-refundable.

·         Printing Requirement: Each party involved must receive their own printed copy.

·         Extracting Files: The download is compressed; if needed, use a free tool like 7-Zip to access the forms (https://7-zip.org/).
