- New Reference for Remote Fire Protection Inspections: The 2027 edition adds a reference to NFPA 915, supporting the use of remote inspections for fire protection and life safety systems where appropriate.
- Expanded Detection Requirements: Fuel-gas detection requirements aligned with NFPA 715 have been added to new occupancies, including educational, day-care, hotel and dormitory, and apartment building occupancies. Carbon monoxide detection requirements have also been expanded to additional new and existing occupancies.
- Updated Assembly Occupancy Safety Requirements: The panic hardware threshold for new assembly occupancies has been reduced from 100 occupants to 50 occupants, and stage requirements have been completely revised to reflect current industry practices.
- Enhanced Emergency Planning in Educational Facilities: Educational occupancies now require hazard and risk assessments along with wayfinding graphic maps as part of emergency action planning. In-building emergency responder communication enhancement system (ERCES) requirements have also been added to educational and day-care occupancies.
- Reorganized and Modernized Code Requirements: Modular room and sleep pod requirements have been relocated and reorganized for clarity, Chapter 10 furnishing and decoration provisions have been grouped together, and new provisions address short-term rental units and updated safety measures for existing apartment buildings.
- New Reference for Remote Fire Protection Inspections: The 2027 edition adds a reference to NFPA 915, supporting the use of remote inspections for fire protection and life safety systems where appropriate.
