The intent of this book is to summarize the allowable wood use in buildings in accordance with the ICC 2024 International Building Code® (IBC®). Emphasis is placed on the design flexibility permitted for wood in commercial construction. New in the 2024 Code Conforming Wood Design (CCWD) and the 2024 IBC are updates specific to fire resistance rating in floor assemblies of Type III construction to clarify acceptable methods for maintaining continuity of fire resistance rating in portions of floors that support exterior walls. Also new to the 2024 CCWD are updates for Type IV-A, IV-B and IV-C construction which include revised requirements for exposed ceiling area in Type IV-B and requirements for protection of connections.
