Release of Stop Notice (Private Works)

Once payment for a Stop Notice or Notice to Withhold has been satisfied, the claimant must formally release the claim—similar to the process for releasing a Mechanics Lien. However, unlike a Mechanics Lien (which is recorded with the County Recorder), a Stop Notice release does not require county filing.

To execute this release, the claimant must:

Sign before a notary public, verifying the accuracy of the release statement;
Pay applicable fees for notarization; and
Deliver a copy of the release to the same party who received the original Stop Notice.

Important Note:

This form applies only to private works projects.
For public works (e.g., municipal buildings, infrastructure), a separate release form is required.
