ACI/PTI CODE-320-25: Post-Tensioned Structural Concrete—Code Requirements and Commentary
Post-Tensioned Structural Concrete—Code Requirements and Commentary
The Post-Tensioned Structural Concrete—Code Requirements and Commentary ("Code") establishes minimum standards for the materials, design, and detailing of post-tensioned concrete buildings and, where applicable, nonbuilding structures. Developed through a consensus process, this Code applies to structural concrete members and systems incorporating post-tensioned tendons. The Post-Tensioning Institute’s Technical Advisory Board Code Task Group played a pivotal role in its development, and their contributions are gratefully acknowledged.
Key topics addressed include:
-
Design and construction for strength, serviceability, and durability
-
One-way and two-way slabs
-
Beams
-
Post-tensioning anchorages
-
Construction documentation
-
Field inspection and testing
Code Structure and Relationship to ACI CODE-318
This Code aligns with the chapter and section numbering of *ACI CODE-318-25*, either referencing or restating its provisions. Identical provisions are marked with an equal sign (“=”), while applicable but non-repeated requirements are noted as “See *ACI CODE-318*.”
The organization follows the design and construction process, with member-specific requirements in dedicated chapters. Common design procedures are consolidated in utility chapters. To maintain consistency with *ACI CODE-318*, sections not covered here are labeled “out of scope,” and omitted provisions are marked “intentionally left blank.”
Adoption and Use
The Code is intended for adoption by reference in general building codes, a practice established with prior editions. Its language is structured to allow direct incorporation without modification. Consequently, explanatory details or implementation guidance appear in the Commentary, which clarifies new or revised provisions and outlines the interaction between this Code and *ACI CODE-318*.
Usage Examples:
-
Cast-in-place nonprestressed concrete: *ACI CODE-318* alone.
-
Post-tensioned concrete: This Code + *ACI CODE-318*.
-
Precast post-tensioned concrete: This Code + *ACI CODE-318* + *ACI-PTI CODE-319* (where applicable).
For precast concrete provisions outside post-tensioning scope, references to *ACI CODE-318* or *ACI-PTI CODE-319* are provided.

Research data and supplemental documents (e.g., PTI design manuals, recommended practices) are cited for further study.
