The International Mechanical Code (IMC) establishes minimum regulations for mechanical systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. The IMC was developed with broad-based principles that make possible the use of new and innovative materials, methods and design. - Improved features for identifying changes by using both marginal markings and QR Codes for print and PDF formats (Digital Codes show changes in color)
- Full color vector images in digital format of the codes in the ICC digital codes platform
- Code section number changes from 2024 are shown in relocation tables accessed online, and by QR Codes in the printed editions
- AltText of figures for screen readers for the visually impaired persons
Important changes in the 2027 IMC include:
- New ASHRAE reference has been added in addition to compliance with Table 1103.1 related to refrigeration machinery rooms.
- Additional terminology and requirements for group controllers are added to address buildings with large voluminous spaces and heavy refrigeration loads, where a leak in one cooling unit can create hazardous conditions elsewhere in the building.
- The use of exhaust-only ventilation systems has been revised.
- Provisions regarding Type I hoods are clarified, providing two clear paths for code compliance.
