International Zoning Code (IZC)

Provides a structured and consistent approach for land use for construction within a jurisdiction. This code supports health, safety, property protection, and welfare through orderly land development, land-use controls, and regulation of the design, location, use, and occupancy of buildings and structures.

The International Codes® (I-Codes®), developed by the International Code Council, establish safeguards to protect public health, safety and welfare within the built environment. This 2027 edition of the International Zoning Code® provides a comprehensive, coordinated set of model regulations for the design, construction and maintenance of the built environment. Structured for technical precision, the IZC delivers enforceable requirements aligned with nationally and internationally recognized standards. The I-Codes serve as a reliable regulatory framework adoptable and adaptable to innovative and evolving technologies, materials and methodologies.

• Improved features for identifying changes by using both marginal markings and QR Codes for print and PDF formats (Digital Codes show changes in color)
• Full color vector images in digital format of the codes in the ICC digital codes platform
• Code section number changes from 2024 are shown in relocation tables accessed online, and by QR Codes in the printed editions
• AltText of figures for screen readers for the visually impaired persons

Key changes to the 2027 IZC include:

• Updates to parking spaces requirements.
• Updated Swimming Pool definition to be consistent with the ISPSC.
• Deleted certain water features.
• Updated the definition of Hospital.
• Scoping of each chapter has been revised and updated.
