Rectangular Industrial Duct Construction Standards, 3rd Edition
The 1980 edition of the SMACNA Rectangular Industrial Duct Construction was the first publication dealing with the selection of duct gauge and reinforcement for rectangular industrial duct systems. The 2004 Second Edition was updated and included a more “user friendly” version of the original publication.
For this Third Edition, the SMACNA Rectangular Industrial Duct Construction Task Force led a comprehensive review and update of the Second Edition. Updates included are: Carbon and coated steel, stainless steel and aluminum include expanded panel pressure capacity tables to accommodate larger ducts with panel widths to 16.0 feet wide; To allow for added duct construction options, 2.5 ft stiffener spacing added to carbon and coated steel, stainless steel, and aluminum panel pressure capacity tables; Stainless steel panel pressure capacity tables added for Class 2, 3 and 4 applications; In addition to design capabilities for stainless steel operating at 120 °F, 350 °F and 800 °F, this third edition adds 500 °F; Laboratory testing, physical testing, and data analysis on rectangular duct were completed to further evaluate side wall shear capacities of local buckling to those already introduced in the first and second editions.
