Seismic Restraint Manual Guidelines for Mechanical Systems 4th Ed, 2024
The Seismic Restraint Manual: Guidelines for Mechanical Systems, 4th edition, is an updated set of guidelines that shows designers and contractors how to determine the correct restraints for sheet metal ducts, piping and conduit, so that they are more likely to remain attached to the building during an earthquake.
The manual shows how very low- and very high-risk areas of the country can be accommodated. The new edition includes a more extensive list of bracing options and has been revised to comply with current building codes all within a single document for user convenience.
Some of the significant changes include:
- adding 10 ga sheet metal thickness options to cold formed angle options
- added sch 10 and 80 pipe thickness options
- three new axially loaded bracing class schedules (angle cold formed and hot formed and pipe)
- considerations for three concrete conditions (normal weight slab, light weight concrete over metal underside and topside
- each anchor system (single to six anchor groups) is based on approved ICC-ES evaluation reports
- there are more examples with defined procedures
- lastly, all sizing tables were updated to reflect the above changes.
